From Wearable to Prescription: One Connected Stack

Wheel and b.well launch AI-first infrastructure connecting US consumer health data to clinical delivery and pharmacy care

Wheel and b.well Connected Health announced on 18 May 2026 a strategic partnership to connect consumer health data to clinical delivery and pharmacy fulfilment, an integration that has so far eluded most US virtual care platforms.

Both companies describe the problem as an "Action Gap": patients generate health data through wearables and digital tools, yet that data rarely produces a clinical visit, a prescription, or a follow-up. Closing the gap requires capabilities neither company holds alone.

b.well supplies the data layer. Its FHIR-based platform consolidates a patient's longitudinal health records across providers, payers, and pharmacies, then applies consent management and AI-enabled care routing. Wheel's Horizon platform carries the clinical layer: a nationwide clinician network, prescribing workflows, patient support, and real-time pharmacy coordination. The combined architecture runs on open standards, allowing retailers, payers, life sciences firms, and health systems to deploy it without rebuilding existing infrastructure.

"The winners will be the companies that can turn health context into clinical action, pharmacy access, and outcomes," said Michelle Davey, chief executive of Wheel.

Initial deployment runs through Wheel Clinic inside Walmart's Better Care Services marketplace, covering cardiometabolic health, GLP-1 management, women's health, primary care, urgent care, and Medicare Bridge programmes. Each sits at the centre of US consumer healthcare growth.

Retail distribution carries strategic weight. Consumer-facing access points have become primary entry nodes in the US health system, and embedding clinical infrastructure at that layer extends both companies' reach well beyond conventional provider networks.

Policy and regulatory questions around data consent, interoperability mandates, and prescribing through retail channels remain unresolved and will shape how broadly this model scales.
